Police Brutality...In T-Shirt Form!

The shirt pictured above is being sold by the police union in Denver, Colorado to commemorate their actions during the Democratic National Convention last August. Ask yourself: how comfortable would you be around the police officers of your town if you knew that they were wearing shirts celebrating the use of excessive violence against you and your fellow citizens under their uniforms?

I understand and agree with what you're saying, but I give those cops MAD props for having a sense of humor. It wasn't even a year after the bonfire accident that Town Hall exec's were walking around in "Risk Manage This" shirts. Different, but equally funny for me.

Funny but inappropriate and uncalled for. In fact so inappropriate that it is indeed not funny at all. Especially if you were at the business end of one of those billy clubs. I mean what's the message here. Stay home and you won't be beat? For the most part I have the up most respect for the men and women that risk their lives protecting those who need protecting but in this case, fuck those guys.

I think pretty much anything, no matter how horrible or tragic, can be funny in the right light and situation but Patrick is right, it's the inappropriateness that makes this so bad. We've all heard extremely off-color jokes in the company of friends we know well and have had no trouble laughing at them but doing it in public for everyone to hear is completely different.

I also have respect for many people in law enforcement who put themselves in harm's way to protect the public but there is a social contract implicit to the authority we grant them over our society; in exchange for our respect for that authority they must not give us any reason to doubt their intentions, and things like this t-shirt only serve to break down that trust.

Truthfully, one L bill knows nothing about the details of these beatings.
